Meditating on Genesis 1:2
I’ve been meditation on Genesis 1:2. Not the first sentence, but the second sentence of the bible:
“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” is the NIV version
or if you prefer the older one…
“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.“ is the King James Version
I love this visual image of there being nothingness and God creating something out of nothing. This is part of the creation process that we all go through: when we create, we make something our of nothing!
Then this morning I woke up with the realization that the first part of Handel’s Messiah is expressing this part of the bible! It’s dark and moody, nothingness and formless. Listen to the first 1 min 26 seconds of this
I’ve been on a Handel’s Messiah journey thanks to Gil Miller, who got me started on it with his book “The Road to Emmaus”

Here is a bible project explanation which I will watch later and comment on here. They do a great job of explaining the bible in a fun way!
